Dear Orange County Resident: It is time for a change in Orange County leadership. After serving for six years on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education, I have decided to enter the Democratic primary for the Orange County Board of Commissioners’ election to bring about that change. I have lived in Orange County all my life. I have experienced all the good it has to offer and have worked to find solutions to some of its challenges. My husband, Stan, and I have raised our two sons here. We have been proud public servants of the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro for 17 years and 27 years, respectively, in the Chapel Hill Police and Carrboro Fire departments. We have both volunteered in our schools, church, and community for more than 20 years. I serve on the Board of Education, and Stan serves on the Orange County Human Rights and Relations Commissions. We love our county and work every day to make it better. This is a county with very different towns and a large rural area. I pledge to support the unique qualities of rural Orange, Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough. Sometimes the best way to come together is to celebrate and appreciate how we are different. As a county commissioner, I will listen to all citizens with civility, respect and an open mind. I will promote honest discussions of issues, and make decisions that are both responsive and responsible. I am committed to winning this election. Why? Because I want tomorrow’s citizens, today’s children, to be proud of the decisions that the Orange County Commissioners make. I promise to vote with the knowledge that my voice matters not just today but into the future. I promise to vote to preserve what is good and change what needs to be changed.
